Today we’ve got a plasma from LG, and this one’s going to go a good long way in terms of value for you, which is definitely a consideration you want to make, especially given that you want some cash left over for your chips and dip budget going into the Super Bowl. It’s the LG 42PJ350, and it’s actually pretty good.

The LG 42PJ350 is a forty two inch 720p plasma television that offers three different AV modes to give you different settings depending on what you’re doing with the television at the time, Picture Wizard to give you an easier time setting the various levels of your picture, dual XD engines for video processing, 24p Real Cinema display, Clear Voice II and Infinite SOund for better audio, as well as Dolby Digital decoders, two ten watt speakers, three HDMI ports, two component inputs, two composite inputs, an RF input, a PC input, a USB port and a digital optical audio output.

There’s plenty to like here–decent picture (it’s just 720p, after all), nice sound (ten watt speakers, but with some augmentation), and of course, about as much room for old components as new ones. It’s not the best, naturally. There are a lot of things putting this down, though, but for an entry level plasma television,it should be most of what you’ll need.

And it actually gets better when you find you can get one of these for $467.77 out at Amazon, which is a terrific price.

So if you’re looking for a new plasma television, well, you’ll certainly want a look at the LG 42PJ350, a plasma television that will deliver plenty of value in a good package.

Samsung PN50C430 Plasma Television Review 1 komentar

Another fine plasma television entry, ahead of the Super Bowl, comes our way today in the form of the Samsung PN50C430, a big, if not all that great, plasma television. It will prove a strange juxtaposition of concepts, but the strangeness will not distract from the overall quality of the system.

The Samsung PN50C30 is a fifty inch 720p plasma television that offers a Wide Color Enhancer mode, ConnectShare Movie to get content off cameras to display directly onto the television, a game mode to reduce blurring in high-speed situations, Anynet Plus systems, two ten watt speakers augmented by SRS TruSurround HD, two HDMI ports, a USB port, a component video input, a composite video input, two audio inputs, a headphone jack, and a digital audio output.

You can see right off that there’s not a lot to this one, especially not in the way of features. And it does show through in the picture, which isn’t all that great. It’s only 720p, after all, which is still pretty good but not as great as many you’ll see. The sound is a bit better, though; ten watt speakers are hardly special but augmented by the SRS TruSurround HD system certainly gives them a note of backup. There’s not much room here for extra components, though, which is a downright shame. Sure, it plays equally well with old and new components, but it doesn’t play particularly well with either old or new hardware.

But considering that Amazon wants $604.99 for one of these, you can forgive a whole lot of issues with this. You can forgive a whole lot of anything for that kind of price tag, and if your home theater is a bit on the minimalist side (or has a good receiver to back it), then you should be able to do all right with a huge picture and not many components.

The Samsung PN50C430 isn’t the best television you’ll find out there, but it’s certainly one of the best values out there, and if you go this route, you’ll want to keep your home theater relatively simple, but you should get along pretty well.

Panasonic TC-P50U2 Television Review–A Fair System 0 komentar

Today’s plasma television comes to us from the folks out at Panasonic, who have put together a pretty impressive model with their Panasonic TC-P50U2.

The Panasonic TC-P50U2 is a fifty inch 1080p plasma television that offers a 600Hz Sub-field drive system, Viera Link to let you control all your various devices from one remote, a game mode to reduce blurring in high speed video situations (like those commonly found in gaming), the Viera Image Viewer system, two ten watt speakers with surround sound capability, three HDMI ports, two component inputs, two composite inputs, and one digital audio input.

This one has a surprisingly nice picture; sure, it’s 1080p, but we’ve seen some 1080p pictures that don’t exactly look like they qualify. This one does. And the sound is pretty nice too, though again, not as good as some. It’s got some augmentation on its ten watt speakers, and that never hurts. Plus, it actually plays a little better with older hardware than newer, thanks to a slightly unusual ratio of HDMI to component / composite slots.

And considering that Amazon wants $881.35 for one of these, which is not half bad at all, really, you’ll end up with a pretty solid value for a fairly decent price.

The Panasonic TC-P50U2, though it won’t be the best television you’ve seen lately, will still be a good quality addition to your home theater system.

Hannspree, makers of plush TVs and TVs shaped like a soccer ball, are coming out with more novelty TVs.

For example, they are planning a 28-inch set shaped like the apple that you see here, as well as one that looks like a basketball. They have standard features of 1920 x 1200 native resolution, 16:9 aspect ratio, 10,000:1 contrast ratio, and two HDMI inputs.

Haier HLC24XK2 Television Review–Surprisingly Ineffective 0 komentar

And a happy Black Friday to you all! We end our week of cheap televisions by taking a sad look at the Haier HLC24XK2, a television that will take the whole “get what you pay for” adage way, WAY too far, and not to the benefit of those who might shell out the cash, too.

The Haier HLC24XK2 is a twenty four inch 1080p LCD television that offers a built-in DVD player, two three watt speakers with SRS TruSurround, a digital comb filter, one HDMI input, one component video input, one PC input, one composite input, a headphone jack, a USB port, sleep timer and an included remote.

Something is very wrong with the Haier HLC24XK2. Despite the fact that they assure me that this is a 1080p picture, it doesn’t look very good. And despite the SRS TruSurround augmentation on the speakers, they really don’t sound all that great either. Maybe I just saw a bum unit, I don’t know. But this one I really don’t like.

And when you considering these are selling for about $287 each, well, I really can’t suggest these based on what I’ve seen of them so far. You may have a better experience when you see a Haier HLC24XK2 yourself, but this doesn’t work for me. [http://www.cybertheater.com]

Vizio M260VA Television Review–Lower End Value 0 komentar

We’ve had a good week so far–and happy Thanksgiving to everybody in our United States readership–so today we’re going to carry on with another low-cost television to fire you up for that bargain hunting romp tomorrow, the Vizio M260VA.

The Vizio M260VA is a twenty six inch 720p LCD television that offers SRS TruSurround and SRS TruSurround HD, ambient light sensing technology, a one hundred seventy eight degree viewing angle, two three watt speakers, two HDMI ports, one component video input, one RF input, one PC input, a headphone jack and a USB port.

Nothing overwhelming, of course–nothing big or expensive here. It’s a 720p, which means the picture will be good but not terrific. Three watt speakers don’t give off a really terrific sound, but you’ll be able to make out the dialogue and you’ll definitely know when something’s blowing up. But there’s a limit here and you’ll reach it a whole lot sooner than if you were using fifteen watt speakers with Dolby decoders.

If you keep your expectations in line, you should be at least reasonably satisfied with this very bargain priced piece. How very bargain priced, you wonder? Try two hundred and nine dollars. Now that puts the whole thing in a different light.

The Vizio M260VA isn’t the best LCD television on the market, but it’ll handle the basics pretty well.

We carry on with the look at lower priced televisions to get you fired up for Black Friday shopping with a look at the LG 26LD350, a surprisingly nice, if somewhat smaller, LCD television.

The LG 26LD350 is a twenty six inch 720p LCD television that offers a one hundred seventy-eight degree viewing angle, two seven watt speakers with Dolby Digital decoder and Infinite Sound technlogy, Clear Voice II technology, a variety of AV modes, 24p Real Cinema, Picture Wizard technlogy, SimpLink technology which controls all your LG devices in one remote,two HDMI ports, one component input, one composite input, one RF input, one PC input, one PC audio input, one digital audio output, one USB port and one headphone jack.

Like I said, smaller but still fairly nice. Sure, 720p video will never be anyone’s idea of an incredible picture, but it’s still within tolerances. And the video is a little better than normal–seven watts per speaker isn’t much at all, but when backed up with a Dolby Digital decoder, it certainly helps. And there are plenty of ports for old and new hardware alike, making this a good starter television.

And of course, like I said, the price is going to be one that’ll make you think twice as you can find the LG 26LD350 on Amazon for three hundred dollars.

So basically, you’ll get a surprisingly good quality television here for not a whole lot of cash, and that makes it one to consider even if it isn’t Black Friday.

Vizio Maintains Spot as Top US TV Manufacturer, Now Has 30% of Market 0 komentar

While companies like Sony and Samsung have been big name HDTV manufacturers for some time, Vizio is making quite the name for itself. In fact, it seems that Vizio has managed to maintain its spot as the top TV in the United States with a surprisingly high 30% market share. To put matters into persepctive, Vizio says that they have shipped 160,000 more televisions in the United States than its closet competitor.

Pretty amazing considering Vizio came out of seemingly no where and then proceeded to dominate the market. This just goes to show you that if you make a good product and price it competitively it is going to sell despite competition from big name companies.

Google TV will be available at Europe in 2011 after being officially launched in the U.S. by the end of this year. The potential of this new Google project seems really interesting. Collaboration with some of the largest producers in the world of television, such as Samsung and Sony, will enable the transition from use in the PC than on TV.

IOGEAR’s New Keyboards Make TV Viewing a Little Too Easy 0 komentar

If you’re like me, you’re probably easily frustrated when trying to use a standard TV remote to access/browse Netflix. It’s ridiculously time consuming and not to mention a bit antiquated. However, unless you want to drop a large amount of money on a fancy QWERTY remote or even more money on an ungainly near-full-sized keyboard, you really don’t have an option . . . until now. Thanks to the folks at IOGEAR, your TV navigation just got a whole lot easier.

They’ve released not one but two rather stylish little keyboards (equipped with trackballs no less) to help you waste time and drain your brain through your HTPC.

If micro is your thing, you’re going to love the new GKM571R. It’s tiny (a little bit bigger than the palm of your hand) and features a retro sort of styling reminiscent of a ColecoVision console but smaller. Its keys are also backlit so they’re easy to spot when you’ve got your mood lighting on.

If you need something a little bigger, either because you can’t see tiny or your fingers are too big to press little buttons, you’ll no doubt prefer the GKM581R. It’s ovoid and looks more like a traditional keyboard. It even sports several hotkeys to make you even more efficient/lazy.

You’re going to have to spend just under $100 to get one of these when they launch later this year ($99 for the GKM571r and $89 for the GKM581R) but convenience is something people love to pay for.

If you’ve been following the home theater related tech community (which you probably have considering you’re reading this site) you’ll undoubtedly know of the rivalry between Google TV and Apple TV. While both products are quite capable at doing what they set out to do, Google TV has some distinct advantages over the Apple TV.

One advantage, for instance, is the fact that Google TV owners have the chance to actually browse the web through the platform from their television without ever having to leave the couch.

Well, for you adventurous folk out there it seems that the Apple TV is going to get the same treatment soon enough. Of course, you’re going to have to jailbreak your device in order to get down on the web browsing goodness but tehn again, don’t you have to jailbreak all Apple products to unlock their true potential?

No word on when a public Apple TV web browser will be released but we will keep you posted.

Japanese Market Shows Sale of 130,000 3D TVs in 6 Months – 4.1% of TVs Sold 37-inches and Up 0 komentar

There are various trends happening in just about every technology niche on the market but in the display world there is one in particular that stands out above the rest. Can’t guess what I’m talking about? Well, 3D displays, of course.

While many consumers have gotten a chance to try out 3D displays, not too many have felt the need to buy one. Couple that with the premium you’re forced to pay for a 3D TV and you can see why sales are some what slow. However, oiver in Japan things are a bit different as it seems that 3D TV sales are starting to pick up. In fact, it was just announced today that 130,000 3D TVs were sold in Japan in the last 6 months. This means that 4.1% of all televisions sold that were 37-inches and up were of the 3D type. Top television manufacturers that add to this number including Sony, Sharp, Toshiba and Panasonic.

People of Lava finally Launch Scandinavia Android TV 0 komentar

Some of you may remember when we covered People of Lava, and their attempt Scandinavia Android TV.

It would appear that they have been successful, and they are releasing Scandinavia in Sweden. These 55-inch model televisions ship with Android 1.5 with starter widgets for Google, Chrome, Facebook, YouTube, and Google Maps. There is only 20 more apps you can get from here, but the company hopes to have 1,000 more by the end of the year.

It does cost a bit at $5,280 (that’s like a mile’s worth of dollars, if dollars were feet). I wonder if you can get Netflix on it.

Samsung to Produce Google TV Powered Televisions in 2011 0 komentar

While much of the buzz in the technology world is surrounding things like tablets and smartphones, a war is going on in the home theater community – a war between Apple and Google. While Apple has long had their Apple TV set-top box available for public consumption, their recent release changed the device’s purpose introducing a streaming only service. Google, on the other hand, has their Google TV media platform which allows consumers to do things like surf the web, stream web content and more all from their big screen television.

While Apple TV has the power of Apple to support it, Google TV has the power of several different hardware manufacturers. Currently, we’ve seen products from manufacturers like Logitech and Sony but who else is looking to get into the game?

A report has surfaced today that says Samsung will be the next contender. According to these reports, Samsung is looking to get into the Google TV market with a television powered by the platform sometime next year. When exactly that is to be is any one’s guess at this point but we’ll certainly keep you posted as the story unfolds.

Since their recent announcement about Google TV, Logitech is underway with their plans for launch of the Revue. The company’s product page is currently live and accepting preorders for the $299 package, which is also available for $179 if you have Dish Network and shipping will start by month’s end. For the Revue with Google TV box, you can expect a keyboard with integrated touch and directional pad, an HDMI cable, one IR blaster and a couple of AA batteries as a simple power source.

Furthermore, a few screens of the free Logitech Harmony App for iPhone and Android are available for browsing use. In addition to this, a $149 webcam, the Revue-specific version of the diNovo Mini controller for $129.99 and other accessories are also available for preorder. A larger keyboard is available for $99 if you need an extra one as well. Then there’s the Logitech TV Cam, with Carl Zeiss autofocus lens and dual microphones, which is supported by a Logitech Vid HD app that has functionality with devices including PCs and Macs. Finally, Logitech also unveiled their own Media Player app, which handles video from connected hard drives or DLNA sources. Company LG expands its line of new LCD-TV Borderless. As you know, back in September were presented the first two models from this lineup – SL8000 and SL9000.
